Thanks to the generous donations of colleagues, former students and organizations, the department is happy to announce the establishment of a graduate fellowship. The Willard F. “Fritz” Mueller Fellowship honors the legacy of path breaking contributions by Professor Mueller and his colleagues in the areas of industrial organization, food systems research and economic policy.
Awarded annually by the Graduate Committee, the fellowship provides a full stipend, tuition waiver and health insurance for the first year of study. Faculty in AAE will provide subsequent support as a Research Assistant.
Fritz Mueller has had a career distinguished by its influence on countless students, contributions to the field of industrial economics, and influence on antitrust policy. Between 1961 and 1985, Fritz was among the most influential economists in the U.S. in the broad policy area of antitrust and market regulation. Among other things, in the 1960s he was primarily responsible for creating the Federal Trade Commission’s Pre-Merger Notification Program. He subsequently assisted Congress in developing the Hart-Scott-Rodino Pre-Merger Notification Act of 1973, the most important antitrust legislation since 1950. Because of Fritz’s leadership, the department holds a national reputation for research on the organization and competitive performance of the U.S. food system and the role of antitrust policy.
